Container Storage Period Increased

Phnom Penh: Sihanoukville Autonomous Port has adjusted the container storage period up to one week to contribute to the business facilitation of business in the transport and logistics sector starting on Friday. It says that the adjustment for the storage period of container export from five to seven days. That is from the time of the container arrival at the port until the departure date.

If deadline is not followed, there will be a charge for one day of stock and it will increase according to the number of days it has exceeded. The decision has been hailed by exporterrs saying it will help trade and reduce private sector spending.

 President of the Freight Forwarders Association, Chea Chandara says that reducing the free container storage period from five to seven days would help reduce owner costs. He has added that although the benefits are not much, it can still help to facilitate trade, reduce costs and bring benefits to the private sector and factories or production owners to export goods.

Chandara has stressed that normally, if a container is overdue, it costs $3.3 per day for a 20-foot and 40-foot container. According to the second quarterly report of 2021 of Sihanoukville Autonomous Port for six months , as of 30 June 2021, Sihanoukville Autonomous Port received a total revenue of more than $40 million. It is an increase of 13.45% compared to the same period in 2020.
